March 2025 – As part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, Sofitel hotels in Colombia will join the global Earth Hour initiative this coming Saturday, March 22nd. This year, the initiative focuses on the importance of water as a fundamental resource for life, essential for health and nutrition, and the foundation of nature.

This year, Earth Hour coincides with World Water Day, so, according to the WWF, this date will be used to encourage more people to recognize its value and together we can take the necessary actions to protect it.

During this event, Sofitel Legend Santa Clara in Cartagena, Sofitel Barú Calablanca Beach Resort, and Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia will turn off the lights on their facades and common areas for 60 minutes starting at 8:30 p.m., seeking to raise awareness about the importance of caring for the environment and working to reduce the impact of climate change.

The first Earth Hour was held in Sydney, Australia, on March 31, 2007, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. San Francisco also joined in with the so-called Lights Out action. It later grew into a global movement that has reached thousands of cities in 188 countries and territories.

According to the international organization, more than 200 countries joined the 2024 edition, and millions of people have done so since the first edition in 2007. The world's most iconic monuments also went dark for Earth Hour.
