Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort was recognized with the "Platinum Beach" distinction, awarded by the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC), consolidating its position as one of the leading sustainable tourist destinations in the Mexican Caribbean. This recognition is in addition to the resort's annual Clean Sustainable Beach Level III certification and positions it as a benchmark in the responsible management of its coastal environments.

The "Platinum Beach" distinction is a model designed to promote the progressive development of environmental management on beaches. However, the complex has surpassed this objective by immediately meeting the scheme's most demanding guidelines.

The official presentation of the distinction took place on March 20, 2025, at the hotel. It was led by Fernando Solís Mata, Commercial Manager, and Francisco Pérez Herrera, Innovation Manager of the Mexican Institute for Standardization and Certification (IMNC).

"This recognition reflects our daily commitment to the environment, our visitors, and the local communities. We are proud that our beach meets the highest national standards," said Ignacio Subías, Country Manager for Mexico, after receiving the certificate.

It's worth noting that only 267 recreational beaches in Mexico are eligible for certification, out of more than 11,500 km of national coastline.

More than 6.4 million tons of waste end up in Mexico's oceans annually, according to Forbes. Ninety percent of this waste is plastic.

The "Platinum Beach" distinction not only evaluates the cleanliness of the beach, but also its infrastructure, safety, water quality, environmental education, and biodiversity conservation. Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort earned it thanks to a mature and consistent environmental management system that it has been implementing for years.

"This certification represents an external validation of our internal efforts. We are committed to maintaining beaches that are not only beautiful, but sustainable for future generations," said Arantxa Munuera, the resort's general manager, who was also present at the award ceremony.

This achievement reinforces the resort's commitment to the environmental standards of Tulum and Solidaridad, leading municipalities in the implementation of the Playa Platino program. As has been recognized at other beaches in the Mexican Caribbean, this certification guarantees safe, clean environments with quality infrastructure for visitors and our community.
