Peru strengthens ties with Brazil and projects itself as a tourist and investment destination
Peruvian Ambassador to Brazil Rómulo Acurio highlighted the country's historical, cultural and economic importance, as well as the ties that unite Brazil and Peru. "We are neighboring countries, we share almost 3,000 km of border in the Amazon, and our bilateral trade reached US$5.5 billion in 2023, growing both in large economic centers and in border regions," he said.
Acurio highlighted tourism as one of the pillars of the Peruvian economy, driven by its historical, gastronomic and scenic wealth. The country has attracted significant investment in luxury hotels, especially in cities such as Lima, Cusco and Arequipa, as well as emerging destinations on the northern coast and in the Peruvian Amazon.
The ambassador also reinforced the ease of entry for Brazilians, who can visit Peru with just an identity document, without the need for a passport or visa.
SAHIC 2025 - Peru's strategic vision
Peruvian Consul in Rio de Janeiro, Carlos Garcia, highlighted the choice of Rio as the host city for SAHIC 2025, emphasizing the city's importance as a gateway to Brazil and its relevance on the global stage. "Rio has always been on Peru's radar due to its international importance and because it is a platform for Brazil to project itself into the world," he said.
Garcia emphasized that the Peruvian consulate plays a fundamental role not only in protecting Peruvian citizens, but also in promoting gastronomy, culture and investment in Peru, including tourism and hospitality.
PromPerú bets on expanding investments and tourism
PromPerú's director of corporate investments, Daniel Córdova, explained the Peruvian government's strategy to attract foreign direct investment. According to him, Asia-Pacific is a key market, due to the growing flow of capital from the region. "We are promoting actions in 16 international markets, focusing on countries such as China, Japan, Korea and Australia, in addition to traditional countries such as the US, Canada, Chile and Brazil," he explained.
Córdova also highlighted the expanding airport infrastructure, including the expansion of Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima and the construction of the new Chinchero Airport in Cusco, which will facilitate the growth of tourism.
Regarding tourist destinations, Córdova pointed out that, in addition to the traditional Lima-Cusco-Arequipa-Puno circuit, there is an effort to develop the northern coast (Tumbes, La Libertad, Cajamarca) and the Peruvian Amazon as emerging tourist hubs.
Brazil and Peru united by tourism and sustainability
The director of PromPerú's commercial office in Brazil, Silvia Seperack, provided additional information on Peruvian tourism promotion activities. She highlighted the partnership with the private sector and Peru's participation in 15 of the world's leading international fairs, such as FITUR (Spain), WTM (London and São Paulo) and FIT (Argentina). Peru received around 3.6 million foreign tourists in 2024.
Seperack also highlighted the growing importance of sustainable and community-based tourism, with award-winning projects in Cusco, Puno and Arequipa, as well as the appreciation of indigenous Amazonian culture. Peru seeks to expand this model, promoting authentic and immersive experiences for tourists interested in culture, nature and well-being.
