The "We're Moving Forward" strategy will boost domestic tourism through five pillars:
Promotions for travelers and bank users on flights, lodging, and tour packages.
Awareness campaign to position the Mexico and Pueblos Mágicos brands.
Digitalization, facilitating payments for tourism services through various digital methods.
Economic development, generating a direct positive impact on the resident communities of the Magical Towns.
Financial education, conducting workshops for students, SMEs, tourism service providers, and other sectors of the population on the subject.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) added that, with this strategic alliance between the Ministry of Tourism and BBVA, the Mexico brand will be promoted and access to financing will be provided in community tourism centers.
He stated that the "Avanzamos por México" initiative "joins the efforts made by this administration to position our country as one of the top five tourist destinations worldwide and increase the economic impact and employment derived from this noble activity, one of the goals established in the Mexico Plan to generate Shared Prosperity."
With this alliance, BBVA joins the digitalization process of the Magical Towns by offering SMEs banking products such as point-of-sale terminals, payment gateways, and transaction links, thus bringing them closer to the advantages of online payments.
In addition, an awareness campaign will be launched to position the "México" and "Pueblos Mágicos" brands on the bank's ATMs, screens, and digital channels. The bank will also expand a financial education program to the communities living in the towns designated for this appointment.
Additionally, financial access and banking services will be provided for community tourism projects, financial and technological education will be provided for entrepreneurs in the sector, and financial incentives will be offered to tourists, such as rewards programs, interest-free months, and cashback.
BBVA Mexico's Vice President and General Manager, Eduardo Osuna Osuna, mentioned that the digitalization of Magical Towns is essential, given that hotel and flight reservations are currently made online, and tourists expect to pay cashlessly and find digital services.
“70% of micro and small businesses in this sector are unbanked, and that's why we're promoting the creation of a digital payment environment that will allow merchants, artisans, and tourism service providers to accept electronic payments, reducing their dependence on cash and promoting sustainable financial inclusion,” he stated.
Secretary Rodríguez Zamora was accompanied by Undersecretary Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza; the head of the Tourism Information and Policy Unit, Nathalie Desplas Puel; the head of the Tourism Innovation and Policy Unit, Christian Leslie García Romero; and the Director General of Social Destination Management, Marte Luis Molina Orozco. They participated in various panels and discussions on tourism and its importance to the national economy and its role in generating social well-being.
