Florida announces highest tourism figures in state history for 2024

Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida continues to be the leading destination for travelers from around the world, welcoming a record 142.9 million visitors in 2024

This represents a 1.6% increase over 2023, the year with the highest number of visitors in the state's history to date.

The fourth quarter of 2024 also set a new record with 33.1 million visitors, surpassing the highest number on record for this period and becoming the fourth quarter with the highest number of visitors on record. This record was driven by 29.9 million domestic visitors, 2.5 million international visitors, and 742,000 Canadian visitors.

"The results are clear: Florida is the best place to visit, live, and do business," said Governor Ron DeSantis. "Another record-breaking year proves that leadership matters, and the Commonwealth of Florida is a model for the nation."

"Under Governor DeSantis' bold leadership, Florida's tourism industry remains the best in the world," said Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. "Tourism in Florida continued to break records in 2024, overcoming a challenging hurricane season, driving economic growth, and improving the quality of life for Florida communities and families."

Despite the challenges posed by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, Florida's tourism industry remained strong, with hotel occupancy up 6.7% during the fourth quarter and room nights sold up 1.6% through 2024. Additionally, the state's airports saw steady growth, with total boardings up 3.1% year-over-year.

2024 Highlights:

142.9 million visitors traveled to Florida in 2024, marking a 1.6% increase over 2023 and setting a new visitor record.

130.7 million domestic visitors, 1.3% more than the previous year.

8.9 million international visitors, a 6.6% increase compared to 2023, approaching pre-2019 levels.

3.3 million Canadian visitors, representing a 1.2% increase over the previous year.

Domestic visitors accounted for 91.5% of the total, international visitors 6.2%, and Canadian visitors 2.3%.

Air traffic at Florida's 19 major airports grew 3.1% in 2024, with significant increases at airports such as Tallahassee, Panama City, and Pensacola.
