In 1972, in the Catalinas Norte area, the 61,500-square-meter, 91-meter-high Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center rose to become a landmark of the Retiro neighborhood and the nation's capital. The building, the work of architects Santiago Sánchez Elía, Federico Peralta Ramos, and Alfredo Agostini, was the first international luxury hotel in Buenos Aires. A cutting-edge design for its time, its 740 rooms spread over 24 floors hosted presidents, artists, intellectuals, diplomats, athletes, businessmen, and celebrities.

The hotel has also hosted important international meetings, such as the CELAC summit in 2023, and has also hosted historic performances, such as Frank Sinatra's in 1981. More than five decades later, the Sheraton Buenos Aires remains an undisputed benchmark in the Buenos Aires hotel industry, with a tradition that is renewed to continue offering an experience where history and excellence collide.

Times of change for a symbol of the city

As part of its commitment to providing maximum comfort to its guests, the hotel is undergoing a Full Renovation, a comprehensive remodeling project comprised of four stages. The first phase includes modifications to all hotel rooms, with renovations to the floors, bathrooms, furnishings, and electrical installations. Additionally, high-performance showers, faucets with flow restrictors, and advanced drainage systems will be added, which will not only improve guest comfort but also help reduce drinking water consumption by up to 30%.

"Floors will also be installed, covering a large portion of the wall and offering unparalleled views of the city. The new rooms are now available as part of the new Superior category, in two versions: king and twin. All can be booked online or through reservation centers," commented Cecilia Hovsepian, Director of Sales & Marketing at the Sheraton Buenos Aires Hotel & Convention Center.

The next stages of the renovation will encompass everything from the building's facade to the lounges, restaurants, gym, and spa. In addition, the common spaces will be remodeled to reflect a more modern, functional, and comfortable vision, with a minimalist style.

“By always staying at the forefront of new trends related to comfort and experience, both in terms of buildings and service, we want guests to have an unforgettable experience at our facilities so they will
choose us again,” Hovsepian said.

Although the hotel has undergone expansions in the past, such as the opening of its convention center in 1996, this will be its first comprehensive renovation. During the process, all operations will continue as normal, with none of its amenities affected.

A Tradition That Continues
The Sheraton Buenos Aires has incorporated a pet-friendly policy so that pet owners can stay with them and enjoy its facilities, which include two swimming pools, a paddle tennis club, modern coworking offices, restaurants, and a magnificent bar. This change includes the adaptation of packages specifically designed to provide pets visiting the hotel with green spaces to enjoy outdoors.

"The proposal was designed based on our customers' demands. Thanks to a partnership with a leading pet nutrition company, we prepared a package that includes some pet amenities," Hovsepian said.

Sustainability is another pillar of its strategy, as reflected in its SERVE 360: Doing Good in Every Direction program. This shift in its policies seeks to reduce its carbon footprint, guided by its Sustainability and Social Impact Goals for 2025 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
