Josefina Rodríguez: Tourism in Mexico continues to rise, with revenues of more than $6 billion expected in the first two months of 2025

Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora reported that in the first two months of the year, foreign currency income from international visitors amounted to $6.601 billion, 4.5 percent more than in the same period in 2024.


According to the results of the International Traveler Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), this also represents a 45.9 percent increase compared to 2019.


The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) commented that, with this, the growth of tourism strengthens the national economy and boosts the employment rate generated by this service sector, which in turn improves the quality of life of resident communities, thanks to the Shared Prosperity approach promoted by the current administration.


It adds that during January-February 2025, 7.7 million international tourists entered the country, 8.2 percent more than the same period in 2024 and 11.8 percent more than in 2019.


He also highlighted that 15.4 million international visitors arrived in the country in the first two months of the year, representing a 15 percent increase compared to 2024.


Likewise, it stated that foreign currency income from international tourists also increased year-on-year, reaching $6.0774 billion in the first two months of 2025, 2.8 percent and 46.4 percent more than the amounts collected in 2024 and 2019, respectively.


During January and February 2025, an additional 4.2 million international tourists arrived by air, with an average spending of $1,316.6, 4.4 percent more than in 2024 and 22.5 percent more than in 2019.


Rodríguez Zamora announced that in the first two months of the year, 2.2 million cruise passengers arrived at the country's various ports, an 11.8 percent increase compared to 2024 and a 25.6 percent increase compared to 2019.


In this regard, in January and February 2025, foreign exchange earnings from cruise ship visitors amounted to $191.5 million, 14.5 and 57.4 percent more than in 2024 and 2019, respectively.
