Located at the northwestern end of the Amazon basin, Chiribiquete encompasses jungle territories in the municipalities of San José del Guaviare, Miraflores, and Calamar in Guaviare, with borders in San Vicente del Caguán, Solano, and Cartagena del Chairá in Caquetá.
Since its declaration as a national natural park in 1989, Chiribiquete has been the subject of important discoveries, including new species. Over time, its area has grown to 4.3 million hectares. Currently, the park has 2,138 documented species of flora, of which 67 are endemic and 16 are exclusive to this area.
Although the park currently does not allow tourism, its proximity to Guaviare and Caquetá offers visitors the opportunity to explore the rock formations of the Stone City in the Serranía de la Lindosa, as well as the pre-Columbian pictographs on Cerro Azul. Other nearby natural attractions include Las Delicias Waterfall, Laguna Negra, and the natural pools, all must-see destinations for ecotourism lovers.
