Meliá Hotels International and Summum Hotel Group continue to strengthen their growth partnership with the announcement of a new project in Begur (Girona province). The current Hotel Eetu Begur joins the Affiliated by Meliá portfolio this spring and will be managed by Summum Hotel Group. The asset is owned by the private equity fund AX Partners, which will transform the property into a 5-star hotel. Throughout the year, the establishment will be completely renovated and expanded to adapt to the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, becoming Meliá Begur in 2026.
Located in the heart of Empordà, Begur's old town, the small Romanesque town of Esclanyà, and its extensive coastline create an incomparable Mediterranean landscape. The hotel is located in the exclusive Aiguablava Bay, a unique setting with access to the most exclusive coves and beaches in the region, such as Platja Fonda, Cala de Malaret, and the Fornells area. It currently has 42 rooms, which will be expanded to 65 after the renovation. It also offers various dining options, a pool, a spa, a gym, and meeting rooms, making it a versatile destination for both leisure and business travelers.
The future Meliá Begur will become a truly premium retreat, where contemporary style merges with the warmth and hospitality that characterize Meliá Hotels & Resorts. Designed to offer maximum comfort, this brand promises an experience where every detail is designed for the well-being of its guests.
The collaboration between Meliá and Summum is consolidated with this project, now totaling five joint initiatives and continuing the expansion of luxury and premium hotel offerings in Spain. The Costa Brava, specifically Begur, is experiencing growth in luxury tourism, evidenced by a growing demand for exclusive accommodations and personalized services.
With this new opening, Meliá Hotels International reaffirms its commitment to sustainable, high-quality tourism development on the Costa Brava, further consolidating its presence in Catalonia with sixteen hotels. For Summum Hotel Group, its entry into Begur represents a milestone in its expansion and strengthens its position in the premium and luxury segment in Spain. With Meliá Begur, both hotel groups seek to offer a quality tourism experience, reflecting the tourism model they promote.
Javier Vich, CEO of Summum Hotel Group, states: “This new project reinforces our firm commitment to managing hotels in unique destinations, always with a personalized and demanding vision of excellence. With Hotel Eetu Begur, five hotels now form part of the alliance with Meliá, which consolidates our strategic collaboration with the group and reaffirms our commitment to quality, sustainable tourism with its own identity.”
For his part, as Aleix Recasens, founding partner of AX Partners, explains: “We are committed to adding value to unique assets, small hotel gems located in the best locations. Projects that excite our investors and society, that contribute to quality tourism, and with which we can provide attractive, sustained returns with low risk. Our goal is to be the benchmark investment fund for private investors by investing in iconic hotel assets in the Spanish Mediterranean.”
