Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) presents its 2024 ranking of the region's best-performing airports, based on passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and air cargo.
The 2024 rankings reflect the diversity and dynamism of a region where air transport is key to its socioeconomic progress and airports play an increasingly important role as drivers of development.
BOGOTÁ: the new leader of the region
For the first time, El Dorado International Airport (BOG) in Bogotá, Colombia, has been crowned #1 in Latin America and the Caribbean in all three key categories:
Passengers: 45.8 million (+16%)
Aircraft movements: 360,044 (+13.4%)
Air cargo: 809,021 tons (+5.1%)
In 2024, El Dorado experienced spectacular growth in both passenger traffic and air operations (16% and 13% respectively), while maintaining its leadership as the continent's most important cargo hub.
It is worth highlighting the very significant growth in passenger traffic in Lima (+15.2%) and Santiago (+12.8%).
Felipe Ángeles International Airport (NLU), serving Mexico City, appears for the first time in the rankings of the continent's major airports, doubling its cargo volume in the last year, positioning itself as a new logistics hub in the region.
Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport experienced significant growth in air cargo and now holds a solid second place on the continent.
In terms of aircraft traffic, Brazil has consolidated its position with two airports in the top five, while Mexico maintains its position with three airports among the busiest.
“The 2024 data reflects more than just numbers: it tells a story of dynamism, recovery, effort, and strategic vision. Latin American and Caribbean airports are committed to sustainable growth and a strong commitment to regional and global connectivity.” – Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC
