ACA accreditation is the only global independent certification program that assesses airports' efforts to manage and reduce their carbon emissions. Level 1 recognizes that the airport has completed a verified inventory of its emissions, establishing the baseline for future reduction actions.

This accreditation marks an important step in AIFA's commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action, as it successfully completed the process of identifying its emission sources and calculating its carbon footprint. As part of the accreditation process, AIFA prepared its 2024 Carbon Footprint report, which assessed both the direct and indirect emissions generated by its airport operations.

In addition to meeting Level 1 requirements, the airport has begun implementing various actions aimed at reducing its environmental impact, including:

Improving energy efficiency in its facilities;

The use of renewable energy, with the operation of three photovoltaic parks;

Promoting sustainable practices among its staff and strategic partners.

“We congratulate Felipe Ángeles International Airport for obtaining Level 1 accreditation from the ACA program. This achievement reflects its commitment to climate action and responsible environmental management. We are proud to see more airports in the region adopting practices that contribute to a more sustainable future for aviation,” said Dr. Rafael Echevarne, Director General of ACI-LAC.

Through its six levels of certification, the ACA program guides airports on a progressive path toward carbon-free operations. This initiative is part of global efforts to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and move toward more sustainable aviation.
