The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, led the ceremonial passing of the baton to the state of Guerrero for the 50th edition of the Tourist Tianguis, which will be held next year in Acapulco.
Accompanied by the governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda, the head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) made the representative handover of the baton to the governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda.
“Receiving the baton as the host state or region of the Mexico Tourism Tianguis is a historic responsibility to national and international tourism, but above all to the people of Mexico,” he said.
He emphasized that the return of the largest tourism event in the Americas to the iconic port represents a turning point in the history of a renewed Acapulco, where the Mexican government has worked hard to promote its economic recovery with the implementation of the comprehensive strategy "Acapulco is Transformed With You," through which more than 15 billion pesos from various funds have been channeled into the rehabilitation of tourism, urban, and social infrastructure.
In this regard, he asserted that the recovery of this historic tourist destination was evident during the past Holy Week holiday period, when average hotel occupancy reached 95.2 percent, 43.7 percent more than in 2024; 191,350 people were accommodated, 68.4 percent more than in 2024; and with an economic impact of 4.019 billion pesos, 59.2 percent more than the previous year.
“The 2026 Tourist Market is in the good hands of the beautiful port of Acapulco, where tourism represents 62.6 percent of Guerrero's tourism GDP and 17.6 percent of the municipal GDP,” stated Rodríguez Zamora.
He reiterated his gratitude and recognition to Governor Marina del Pilar Avila and Baja California Secretary of Tourism Miguel Aguiñiga Rodríguez for making the first Tourist Tianguis, held close to the people, a success.
“Acapulco, we'll see you from April 27 to 30, 2026, stronger than ever, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Tianguis Turístico that gave birth to you and that fills us all with pride!” he concluded.
At the time, the Undersecretary of Tourism and head of Acapulco's economic, cultural, and social revitalization, Sebastián Ramirez Mendoza, emphasized his commitment, along with that of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to positioning Acapulco as a global tourism destination.
As part of the "Acapulco Transforms With You" program, he announced that the Maribús water transport system, as well as the renovated cruise ship terminal, will soon be launched.
