Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora celebrated the announcement of new domestic and international air routes as part of the 2025 Tourism Fair that will boost tourism throughout Mexico.
He highlighted that Viva Aerobus announced 11 new domestic and international routes from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), seven of which will connect to the U.S. destinations of Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver, Houston, Miami, and Orlando, starting in November.
On the other hand, the new domestic destinations offered by AIFA are Tepic and La Paz, which will begin operating in May, and Saltillo and Veracruz, which will begin operating in November.
He added that Volaris will launch 18 new routes during June and July, three connecting cities within Mexico from Morelia to Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Mexicali, and Puerto Vallarta; as well as 15 international routes, which will establish air connections between various cities in Mexico and the United States, as well as a connecting route to Costa Rica.
Meanwhile, Aeroméxico announced new flights between Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and Punta Cana, Panama City, Philadelphia, and Cali, as well as a new route between San Luis Potosí and Atlanta, bringing the total number of flights to 118.
Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the airline expects to close the year with a fleet of 160 aircraft, representing a 12 percent increase compared to the previous record.
On another note, it announced that Iberojet, a Spanish airline, will operate a new direct flight between Querétaro, Mexico, and Madrid, Spain, which will begin operations in October with two weekly flights, on Thursdays and Sundays.
This, he said, will connect a region of El Bajío with Europe, encouraging travelers from the Old Continent to explore Querétaro's tourist routes, such as the wine and romance routes.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism stated that connectivity in Mexico continues to increase, which not only facilitates the arrival of domestic and international tourists but also allows travelers to access distant destinations and unique experiences more quickly and efficiently. These announcements of 35 new air routes made during the Tianguis Turístico clearly demonstrate this positive trend.
He stated that each new connection contributes to strengthening tourism activity with an increase in tourist arrivals, the diversification of tourism in our country, and the arrival of new investments.
