As part of strengthening air connectivity and promoting the destination internationally, the city of Santiago received a visit from 10 European tour operators, who are touring the north of the country as part of a fam trip organized by Visit Santiago, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, on Air Europa's Madrid-Santiago route via Cibao International Airport.
The initiative was conceived during discussions held at FITUR 2025 with the German Tourism Promotion Office (OPT) for the Dominican Republic, and is now taking shape with the presence of these important international tourism players in the Dominican Republic.
During their stay in Santiago, the tour operators visited some of the city's main attractions: the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration and its museum, the Dominican culture hall at the UTESA Dominican Convention and Culture Center, the Signs of Identity space at the León Center, the Santiago Apostol Cathedral, the Son de Keka bar, and the city's historic center. They also visited a representative sample of the city's hotel and gastronomic offerings, with special stops at Victoria's, Rancho Chito, and La Porteña.
The delegation enjoyed their stay at the recently opened Santiago by Curio hotel, part of the Hilton chain, in the city, as well as visits to the AC Marriott, Residence Inn by Marriott, and Hodelpa Garden Court hotels, reaffirming the growing accommodation offering in Santiago.
The delegation was accompanied by the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez; the president of Visit Santiago and director of the UTESA Convention Center, Melany Rodríguez González; the director of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration Museum, María Belissa Ramírez de Zaiek; and the president of ADOMPRETUR, Juana Cabrera.
This action reaffirms Santiago's status as a multi-destination city, key to boosting the Cibao region's tourism offering and its international reach.
