035 – Bogotá, Colombia - May 8, 2025 The dynamics of Colombian travel abroad have changed. While outbound tourism had been showing steady growth, in 2025 the figures denote a 4.1% contraction, especially in destinations such as the United States and Mexico, which, between January and March, reported a drop of 7.8% and 36.1% respectively, when compared to the same period in 2024. This indicates the impact that migration situations can have on the choice of destinations.

Despite this decline in the flow of Colombians abroad, there is evidence of greater interest in traveling to new places, such as Puerto Rico, with a growth of 76.2%; France, with 59.1%; Brazil, with 29.1%; and El Salvador, with 25.4%.

Likewise, other emerging markets that Colombians are targeting include Turkey, Guatemala, and Canada, each of which grew by around 7.5% during the first half of the year. Positive trends were also observed in traditional destinations such as Peru, with increases of 17.5%; Panama, with 14.7%; Spain, with 9.1%; and Ecuador, with 5.8%. It's worth noting that these countries accounted for approximately 28% of total international departures from Colombia during this period. "The tourism landscape is increasingly competitive, and destinations must be prepared to face changing travel trends, as travelers seek different experiences in each location. This is precisely what has generated this boom in exploring new countries," explained Paula Cortés Calle, Executive President of ANATO. He added, "That's why travel agency management is so important. Travel agencies diversify their portfolios and update their offerings daily, not only to adapt to market needs but also to contribute to the decentralization of international tourism and continue to position themselves as transformative agents of tourist experiences."
