Undersecretary of Tourism Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza presented a progress report on the Comprehensive Tourism Development Program "Acapulco Se Transforma Contigo" (Acapulco Transforms With You) to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the people of Acapulco. The program launched last January with the creation of the Comprehensively Planned Center (CIP), which encompasses 3,500 hectares in the municipalities of Acapulco and Coyuca.
"Starting June 1, the new garbage model will begin, transforming collection into a comprehensive waste management system. This includes collecting waste at set times and days, so everyone can deliver their trash directly to the trucks. And we aim to eliminate garbage black spots, which affect the port's image and health," he explained.
From Fort San Diego, where the first corridor of the Historic Bay regeneration project begins, he announced that, "together with the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO, we are working on a Bay Management Plan that, among other things, includes 30 properties listed by INBAL, the restoration of eight murals, and, of course, the tourist corridors."
He explained that, in order to assist the properties affected by the weather, "a house-by-house territorial assessment was conducted, in which we visited 320 properties within the CIP (Central Urban Development Program), of which 72 condominiums were identified as potentially requiring government intervention for their recovery. We are currently forming a committee at each site to support residents with administrative assistance and access to credit."
Ramírez Mendoza commented that the National Fund for Tourism Development (Fonatur) "has already established a dialogue mechanism with 2,807 merchants, service providers, and permit holders on the beaches, with whom an agreement is being forged for their sustainable use, with the goal of achieving the regulation of the federal maritime-terrestrial zone."
The Undersecretary of Tourism announced that the National Water Commission (Conagua) has developed a comprehensive strategy that includes seven actions related to drinking water, including the elevation of pumping equipment, the construction of three radial wells, and the sectorization of the distribution network. He also stated that seven sanitation actions are already being designed, including the rehabilitation of treatment plants, the Bay collectors in the Diamante and metropolitan areas, and the regulation of discharges in the hotel and condominium zones.
He added that, to prevent flooding, there are six actions underway, beginning with the cleaning and dredging of rivers and streams; the reconstruction of embankments, walls, and sheet piling; and the channeling of the Seco and Del Muerto streams.
He asserted that private investment in the Port of Acapulco has been reactivated, with an investment of 7.9 billion pesos, with projects including the Palm Diamante hotel; the Aqua Acapulco project; the Nao Diamante; the Romano Palace hotel; Armando's Le Club, which will become the tallest tower in Acapulco; and the historic Elcano hotel.
In this regard, he highlighted the start of the rehabilitation and reopening of the CICI, led by the company SOFMAR FUN, with an investment of 200 million pesos.
Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda expressed her gratitude for the support of the Mexican government in "making this Acapulco se Transforma Contigo (Acapulco is Transformed With You) program a reality. This program has involved months of work in which we have made giant strides, not only restoring the luster of our port but also transforming it into the best tourist destination in our country."
He highlighted that daily hotel occupancy since December 2024 has maintained an average of 75 percent and expressed his gratitude for the joint work with the Mexican Government's Ministry of Tourism, which has built a comprehensive tourism agenda that promotes conventions, concerts, sporting, cultural, gastronomic, and family events, both nationally and internationally.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo praised the progress made in tourism reactivation, social welfare, water infrastructure, health, and urban services. She announced that the Renacimiento neighborhood will be the first to receive the benefits of the Tianguis del Bienestar (Welfare Market), where confiscated goods are delivered directly to individuals .
