Minister Pablo Menoni served as Director of Transportation for the Montevideo City Council during the development and implementation of the shelter modernization plan and stated, "I want to tell you that this not only beautifies the city, but also enhances the tourist experience. It is a process of incorporating tourism products, specifically, I am referring, for example, to something touristic that positions Montevideo among a small number of cities that have a 100% electric tourist bus."

He added, "Tourists seek quality experiences and information, so these additions help strengthen the country's tourism offering."

The new shelters feature a screen and audio interface that provide real-time information on bus lines, destinations, and arrival times at stops.

They feature LED lighting, tactile paving, and a light signal to make it easier for people with mobility difficulties to stop the bus. Tactile paving is a surface with a raised texture and high-contrast color that facilitates interaction with people who are blind or have low vision.

The shelters will also have USB charging ports for mobile devices.
Work is currently underway to restore existing shelters, both metal and wooden, in several locations throughout the city.
