Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is just one of many solutions that can be implemented to support the aviation industry's journey towards Net Zero, but decarbonizing the entire ecosystem is the only way forward with impact, international industry professionals agreed at the 2025 Sustainable Skies Global Summit.
The summit, which took place from May 14-15, 2025, featured more than 90 speakers on the agenda, a 110% year-over-year increase, and welcomed more than 1,300 attendees from across the international industry to discuss strategic insights, practical solutions, and the high-level collaboration needed to shape a net-zero future.
However, the continued lack of broader infrastructure and geopolitical uncertainty are slowing decision-making. Organized by Farnborough International, the event hosted a meeting of the Jet Zero Council working group, attended by Industry Minister Sarah Jones, to discuss efforts to achieve net-zero and zero-emission aviation through the UK's production of zero-emission aircraft and SAFs.
New for 2025, the fair developed a Career Fair, designed to support students in their preparation for their future careers and provide the aerospace industry with the opportunity to interact directly with students interested in a career in the sector. Additionally, following industry feedback, interactive workshops focused on addressing aviation's most pressing challenges and exploring opportunities to forge a more sustainable future in a collaborative and practical format.
Event sponsor and speaker César Pereira, Director of Sustainability for Commercial Aviation at Embraer, stated: “There is no silver bullet for decarbonizing the industry by 2050. We must make progress on all fronts: from policies, regulations, and financing to technology and aircraft design. As original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), we must participate in these discussions, and being present at a forum like the Global Sustainable Skies Summit is a great opportunity to engage with other industry players and stakeholders. We can achieve many results by being present, talking to people, and staying on top of what's happening in the market.”
Commenting on the success of the fourth edition of the event, Gareth Rogers, CEO of Farnborough International, said: “At Farnborough International, we are proud to have once again brought together the international aviation ecosystem for the Sustainable Skies Global Summit. This year, we saw a 46% increase in attendance, highlighting the growing demand for an event that focuses on the entire ecosystem, from the future workforce to global C-suite executives. Decisions need to be made and progress must be made towards decarbonizing the sector.”
Organized with the support of ADS Group, British Aviation Group, and the Sustainable Aviation Coalition as founding partners, the event was supported by companies such as Exolum, RAeS, Zaffra, Otto Aviation, 1point5, ICF, Alaska Airlines, ATI, Embraer, Air League, and Willis Lease.
