Low-cost airline Arajet announced the launch of a new route directly connecting Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) with Chicago (United States). The service will begin on November 15 and will have three weekly flights to O'Hare International Airport.
Tickets will be available starting this Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased starting at $117 each way, the company reported. This new connection joins the U.S. destinations already served by Arajet: Boston, Miami, New York, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The announcement represents another step in the Dominican airline's expansion strategy into the U.S. market, facilitated by the bilateral Open Skies agreement signed between the Dominican Republic and the United States last December. This agreement eliminated significant restrictions on flights between the two countries, opening up new opportunities to increase air connectivity and foster tourism and trade.
“Arajet continues to grow and strengthen connectivity between the Dominican Republic and the United States, not only for tourists but also for the Dominican diaspora. This new route will boost tourism and generate economic opportunities throughout the region,” said Víctor Pacheco, CEO of Arajet.
The airline, which has the financial backing of Bain Capital and Griffin Global Asset Management, has decided to consolidate its hub at Punta Cana International Airport. From there, passengers will have the opportunity to connect to multiple destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America, in line with the company's vision of becoming a regional benchmark in efficient and accessible air connectivity.
