Plantation, Florida, May 22, 2025 – Marriott International, Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR) announced it has signed an agreement with developer Solana PA, SRL to bring the St. Regis Hotels & Resorts brand to Costa Rica for the first time. The project will be located in the Gulf of Papagayo, in the province of Guanacaste, and will span 220,000 square meters. Construction will begin in July of this year, with an expected grand opening in early 2027.
The initiative represents a new step in the expansion of Marriott's luxury portfolio in the Caribbean and Central America. According to Uriel Burak, Vice President of Development for the region, Costa Rica continues to show growing demand for tourism and premium residences, making the country a strategic market for the company.
The St. Regis Papagayo will offer 120 guest rooms and 143 residential units, conceived under a concept that integrates sophisticated design, international cuisine, and personalized experiences. The hotel will feature six culinary offerings, including a beach club with grill, a Japanese-Costa Rican fusion restaurant, a speakeasy bar, and the Clubhouse. It will also feature a library, spa, pools, a private beach club, and over 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The property will be located between the Bay of Panama and Culebra Bay, 25 minutes from Liberia International Airport, and will feature 580 linear meters of beachfront overlooking the Pacific. It will be integrated into the luxury enclave of Papagayo, consolidating the region as one of the leading high-end tourist destinations in Latin America.
The architectural design will be led by Mexican studio Sordo Madaleno, while Gensler Mexico City will be responsible for the interior design. Also involved are Maat Handasa (landscaping), TalentChef (food consulting), and Ana Ramírez of Ancestral Handmade Hotels (wellness). GFG Securities LLC advised Solana in securing financing and structuring the deal with Marriott.
The St. Regis brand currently operates six properties in the CALA region. With this development, Marriott advances its position in the luxury segment in Costa Rica, introducing a concept that combines hotel tradition, innovation, and a connection with the natural environment.
