Sectur: National tourism employment increases by 2.9% in the first quarter of 2025

Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora highlighted that, during the first quarter of 2025, the employed population in Mexico's tourism sector reached 4.97 million people, representing an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the same period in 2024.

He explained that this increase represents 138,708 people employed in the tourism goods and services sector.

According to data from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment-New Edition (ENOEN), validated by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and the Ministry of Tourism (SECTUR) within the framework of the Specialized Technical Committee on Economic Statistics of the Tourism Sector (CTEEEST), tourism employment represented 9.2 percent of national employment.

The head of Sectur explained that the employed population in the tourism sector from January to March showed, in its quarterly comparison, a 0.5 percent increase, equivalent to 25,929 more people than the previous quarter.

On the other hand, in the first three months of the year, tourism employment grew by 10.8 percent, representing an increase of 482,717 people, compared to the number employed in the sector in the first quarter of 2020, the period prior to the pandemic.

Rodríguez Zamora emphasized the importance of continuing to promote job creation and contribute to national economic development, fostering shared prosperity and social well-being.
