It's a challenging time for the Mexican tourism industry. After four years of explosive growth, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and positioning Mexico as a global leader and top destination in 2025, many hoteliers now face an uncertain season. This is primarily due to external factors such as tariffs and geopolitical tensions that directly affect bookings and arrivals. However, the industry also has a powerful tool at its disposal: data. SiteMinder, the leading global hotel distribution and revenue management platform, has analyzed its extensive data set on bookings and visitors to identify key growth opportunities for Mexican hotels in the coming months. This analytical approach offers a cost-effective way to keep an engaged industry active; in fact, it could represent an unexpected opportunity to demonstrate its agility, intelligence, and world-class resources.
“Our data helps simplify this complex situation and highlights the positive areas where tourism professionals in Mexico can find growth in 2025,” explains Alfredo Rodríguez, Country Manager at SiteMinder. “For example, although US tourist arrivals have declined, as expected, Canadian tourist arrivals have grown by 10%. And while Mexico City is showing a slight decline in numbers, other destinations such as the Riviera Maya and Yucatán are showing moderate growth.”
SiteMinder also found that, despite market uncertainty, lead times for booking summer travel in April remained on par with 2024. Additionally, average stay lengths have increased slightly, suggesting an interest in longer travel experiences.
Another notable point is the growing interest in event tourism, which represents an increasingly significant opportunity for hotels and travel agencies. “Globally, two out of three travelers are more willing to travel in 2025 if there is a specific event linked to the destination,” adds Rodríguez. “This represents a great opportunity for destinations and tourism agencies that focus on festivals, concerts, and cultural activities, all key elements of Mexico's unique appeal.”
To guide travel professionals through these turbulent times, SiteMinder has announced the webinar "Risk, Resilience, and Performance - Navigating Hotel Demand in 2025" on June 4. The webinar will bring together industry leaders to offer hoteliers practical, data-driven strategies to help them maximize revenue amidst geopolitical and economic uncertainty.
James Bishop, Vice President of Ecosystem and Strategic Partnerships at SiteMinder, comments:
“While market volatility presents challenges, it also opens up real opportunities for hotels willing to adapt. That’s why we created ‘Risk, Resilience, and Performance’ to bring together industry leaders from around the world and share strategies that are delivering tangible results today. By combining diverse perspectives with market data, we help hotels identify and capitalize on emerging trends, discover new source markets, and navigate today’s complexities. We want to empower hoteliers with practical tools to turn change into competitive advantage.”
The Mexican session of a global SiteMinder webinar series will take place on June 4 at 11:00 a.m. and will feature Chady Younes, Business Development Manager at SiteMinder; Anthony Foster, CEO of Foster Hospitality; Alberto Barragán Leyva, Director of the Hotel Association; and Sergio Sacal, Head of Market Development at Cloudbeds.
