The Costa Rican Tourism Institute and the Minister of Tourism, William Rodríguez, along with a delegation of 13 national business leaders, are carrying out a series of promotional activities in Canada to continue their efforts to attract tourists to the country through strategic meetings with travel wholesalers, agents, tour operators, and the media.
This mission, aimed at attracting potential tourists, includes key presentations and meetings in Canada's most densely populated cities, such as Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal, where the country is seeking to establish itself as a new destination. This source market represented a volume of more than 137,000 tourist arrivals by air between January and April of this year, 2025, as well as 257,395 arrivals during 2024.
“The Costa Rican Tourism Board continues with its strategy to attract more international visitors on three key fronts: strengthening current routes, expanding connectivity from priority markets, and exploring new strategic investment and promotion opportunities. This is precisely the work that brings us to Canada, where we hope to reap important benefits for the growth of the sector and the positioning of Costa Rica as a destination,” said William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism, regarding the importance of this tour.
Among the Costa Rican companies participating in this promotional tour are TUI Destination Experiences, Hotel Villas Sol, Unique Adventures, Hotel San Bada, CR Sun Tours, and Best of Costa Rica. Also participating are ST Costa Rica, Hacienda Guachipelín, Grupo ANC, Travel Excellence, Hamilton Leisure, Ocotea Group, and Morpho Evasions Costa Rica. Key Promotion Among the topics this Costa Rican mission shares with Canadians are Costa Rica's commitment to a sustainable tourism development model, its rich gastronomy, opportunities for adventure, wellness, and romance activities, as well as its lush nature with beautiful beaches, hot springs, and abundant biodiversity, home to 6% of the world's known species. The ICT seeks to captivate Canadians with a message focused on the country's opportunities for tourism experiences and creating memorable memories with its diverse range of tourism products. It also seeks to convey the destination's advantages, such as its year-round pleasant climate, the Pura Vida spirit, and the characteristic hospitality of Costa Ricans.
“For the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT), these initiatives not only consolidate Costa Rica as a global leader in sustainability and tourism, but also strengthen its position and commitment to the Canadian market. By implementing an innovative promotional format in multiple cities, which includes meetings with travel advisors, tour operators, and specialized media, a precedent is set in the destination's strategy in Canada. This action opens a unique opportunity to establish strategic commercial alliances and generate expanded visibility in one of the country's priority markets,” highlighted Adalberto Rodríguez, ICT's lead executive for promotion and development for that market.
