June 5, 2025 (Miami, USA) – The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) presented the annual results of the tourism industry in Miami-Dade County during its "State of the Travel & Tourism Industry" event, highlighting a record-breaking performance in 2024 with more than 28 million visitors. This figure represents the highest number of arrivals recorded in a single year.
Tourism spending reached $22 billion, generating more than $2.2 billion in local and state tax revenue. In addition, more than 209,000 jobs were supported by the sector, setting a new all-time high for the industry in the county.
Miami-Dade led the state of Florida in average room rates and revenue per available room, also ranking among the nation in hotel occupancy and average daily rates. Tourism demand continued to rise, with increases of 2% in domestic visitors and 5% in international visitors, accompanied by higher spending levels.
During 2024, important strategic advances were consolidated. The construction of the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach, an 800-room hotel adjacent to the convention center, is expected to significantly increase the destination's capacity to attract international events starting in 2027. In addition, a new live camera allows real-time monitoring of the project's progress.
Meetings, conventions, and events activity played a crucial role in the year's results. The convention center's sales team secured 16 new bookings, with an estimated economic impact of more than $131 million. By 2025, the average number of attendees per event is projected to increase, with new bookings already projected to exceed $95 million.
The digital marketing strategy boosted the growth of @VisitMiami, positioning its Instagram channel as the fastest-growing among destination marketing organizations. The Creator Collective program, comprised of local creators, and a new Miami Spice campaign focused on high-end cuisine reinforce the brand's visibility in the global tourism landscape.
In terms of sustainability and accessibility, progress was made with green certifications for local hotels in conjunction with Green Key Global and with inclusive programs in collaboration with Wheel the World and IBCCES, promoting an environment adapted to all types of travelers. Additionally, the Miami-Dade Meaningful Travel Map was launched, guiding visitors toward experiences with a positive social and environmental impact.
The Office of Multicultural Tourism and Development strengthened 147 small businesses through the tourism enhancement program and expanded the Art of Black Miami initiative to 14 communities, marking a 40% growth in its territorial representation. The BHI scholarship fund reached a record high, with $250,000 earmarked for the training of future industry professionals.
High-profile events such as Art Basel Miami Beach, the Formula One Grand Prix, the Jazz in the Gardens Festival, and the Latin GRAMMY Awards were key in attracting visitors. By 2026, the destination is preparing to host major international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, the NASCAR Championship, and the College Football Playoffs.
