Royal Caribbean International announced Diana Ross as the official godmother of Star of the Seas, the next Icon-class ship debuting in August 2025 from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida. Renowned for her musical legacy and ability to bring together generations, Ross will star in the onboard naming ceremony, cementing her role in a maritime tradition that symbolizes the protection of the ship, its crew, and its future guests.
The ceremony will take place in Star's AquaTheater, located in the AquaDome neighborhood, one of the most distinctive spaces on the new ship. There, surrounded by panoramic ocean views, Ross will lead the inaugural celebration of what promises to be the new benchmark for family vacations, with notable stops such as Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.
With Star of the Seas, Royal Caribbean continues to expand its Icon Class offerings, integrating beach, resort, and theme park experiences into a single floating destination. Eight distinct neighborhoods, Category 6 water attractions, seven pools, more than 40 dining options, and shows like "Back to the Future: The Musical" are part of this offering designed for all types of travelers.
“I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” Ross said upon confirming her participation. For his part, Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean, emphasized that “we couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, a truly iconic figure who celebrates life and unites people through her music.”
The godmother's presentation anticipates the spirit that will define Star of the Seas: a space where innovation, entertainment, and emotional connection intersect within the framework of a new era for family tourism at sea.
