Dominican airline Arajet officially launched its new route from the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico, with an inaugural flight that departed from Las Américas International Airport at 12:20 p.m. this Wednesday and landed at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport 40 minutes later.

With four weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays, this direct flight will operate between Santo Domingo Airport and San Juan, Puerto Rico, thus consolidating commercial relations and bringing the Dominican diaspora living on the neighboring island closer together. Starting June 6, a direct flight will connect to San Juan and Punta Cana, with three weekly flights, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The flight was seen off by the Dominican Republic's Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and led by Arajet's CEO and founder, Víctor Pacheco, who displayed the Dominican and Puerto Rican flags as a sign of conquering another destination in the extensive network of destinations that Arajet has been building on the continent, which now totals 28.

By 2025, these new routes will have more than 88,000 seats available, a significant percentage of which were sold within the first 48 hours of the sales announcement made last February.

The formal event, held at Luis Muñoz Marín Airport, was also attended by Puerto Rico Governor Jenniffer González, San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero, and Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company Willianette Robles, among other officials.

The Dominican Republic's Minister of Tourism, David Collado, stated, "It is vital for the country to continue improving air connectivity; that is why we worked so hard to secure the signing of the Open Skies Treaty with the United States, which allows airlines like Arajet to now open important routes like San Juan, Puerto Rico, and also to offer flights to Chicago, Boston, and Orlando, among other new cities in the United States that will be announced in due course and that will impact the arrival of new tourists to the Dominican Republic."

Addressing those present, Arajet's CEO and Founder, Víctor Pacheco Mendez, expressed his enthusiasm for this new route and highlighted that Arajet's arrival in Puerto Rico is a result of the entry into force of the Open Skies Treaty between the United States and the Dominican Republic, and that it would not be possible without the unrestricted support received from the government of Puerto Rico and its Governor Jennifer González, as well as the Dominican government in the person of both President Luis Abinader and Minister Collado, whom he personally thanked.

"This first flight to San Juan is a source of joy for us, the beginning of our commitment to the Puerto Rican people to offer efficient and more affordable travel options for our passengers, connecting this beautiful sister city with the entire continent, strengthening tourism and cultural exchange between both nations," Pacheco Méndez emphasized.

“At the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, we are delighted to welcome Arajet Airlines on its inaugural flight to the island, connecting Santo Domingo and San Juan starting today, June 4, 2025. A second direct flight between Punta Cana and San Juan will be added to this route on June 6. These new connections represent an important step toward expanding access options and strengthening cultural, tourism, and commercial ties between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic,” said Willianette Robles Cancel, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company.

“We are excited about Arajet's arrival at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, further strengthening the air connection between Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, one of the busiest markets in the region. Last year alone, some 700,000 passengers traveled between the two destinations, a figure that reflects the deep economic, cultural, and familial ties that unite us. With these new routes, we are opening the door to more opportunities
for exchange and growth for both peoples,” said Jorge Hernández, President of Aerostar Puerto Rico.

With the launch of this new route, Arajet will offer Puerto Ricans the opportunity to connect to 11 destinations in its network through its two hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. From there, they will be able to connect to destinations such as Aruba, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, among others.

Arajet has an extensive and growing network, projected to close by 2025 with 28 destinations in 17 countries, and more than 250 connections in North, Central, and South America, connecting the entire continent at the lowest cost and with the greatest operational safety.
