On the occasion of World Environment Day, Grupo Piñero reinforced its commitment to a more sustainable tourism model, highlighting the initiatives it has developed across its operations to reduce and eliminate plastic use. For several years, the company has been committed to phasing out single-use plastic products in its hotels, opting for reusable alternatives that minimize environmental impact and foster a more responsible consumer culture.

These initiatives are structured around three lines of action: reducing plastics by eliminating single-use products such as cups, plastic bottles, and laundry bags; promoting reuse, with more durable materials in common areas and redesigning services to avoid unnecessary packaging; and improving recycling through environmental awareness and training campaigns aimed at employees and local communities, carried out by the Group's Somos Ecoístas movement.

Thanks to these actions, Grupo Piñero has managed to significantly reduce the purchase of plastic products and, consequently, the production of this type of waste, by eliminating items such as individual amenities, disposable cutlery and cups, food wrappers, laundry bags, promotional materials such as balloons or pens, and smaller decorative items. This strategy has prevented approximately 200 tons of plastic generation annually. Furthermore, ongoing efforts are being made to recover the plastic that has not yet been eliminated, prioritizing its recycling and preventing it from ending up in landfills.

Committed to local awareness and action

In addition to these improvements, Grupo Piñero develops environmental awareness initiatives (educational workshops, environmental awareness programs, and natural space cleanup campaigns) across the various destinations where the Group operates. These initiatives seek to generate a positive impact on both the natural environment and the collective awareness of employees and local communities by organizing activities that combine volunteering, environmental education, and collaboration with local organizations.

In the context of World Environment Day, Grupo Piñero's brands in Mexico—Bahia Principe Riviera Maya Resort, Tulum Country Club, and the Eco-Bahia Foundation—joined forces to promote socially and environmentally impactful actions in the community of Chemuyil, in coordination with the Municipality of Tulum, the Chemuyil Delegation, and various strategic allies. Under the "Recovering Our Environment" campaign, initiatives focused on improving the urban environment, promoting environmental awareness, and strengthening community ties were carried out.

Among the main activities carried out were two community cleanup days: the first, on May 24th, featured gardening, painting, and removal of bulky items using specialized machinery; and the second, on May 31st, focused on manual cleaning with the participation of volunteers from all divisions of the Group, as well as residents and property owners of the destination.

In addition, the access to Chemuyil was rehabilitated with the planting of chit palm trees, painting of the welcome sign, beautification of access points, and the use of a backhoe for 10 hours. Reforestation and pruning with native species such as chaca, naranjillo, chicozapote, and flor de mayo were also carried out in key areas such as the health center, the pedestrian path, and the vehicular bridge.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Grupo Piñero will participate in the protection of the Cory's shearwater through the "El Primer Viaje" initiative, which will involve its three hotels in Tenerife. A coastal cleanup day will also be organized with the participation of 12 volunteer collaborators. In addition, a cleanup day will be held on Magalluf beach in Mallorca in collaboration with the Respiralia Foundation and the CaixaBank Volunteer Program.

In Jamaica, Grupo Piñero will collaborate with Discovery Bay High School by holding a talk on plastic pollution, providing reusable water bottles to students, and improving the playground by planting some local species from the nursery.

Finally, in the Dominican Republic, the proposed actions are being carried out at the La Ceiba School, where a "Green Point" made from recycled materials will be installed, accompanied by a talk raising awareness about plastic consumption. In parallel, the "Caps for Chemo" campaign will be launched, aimed at collecting plastic caps to be exchanged for pediatric chemotherapy treatments. The containers designated for this purpose will also be recycled and will be available in all hotels and employee areas.

All of these actions are part of a comprehensive and cross-cutting vision of sustainability that reflects Grupo Piñero's tourism model, where environmental stewardship and social well-being are fundamental pillars. Reducing environmental impact from the source, promoting the circular economy, and raising awareness about the responsible use of resources are pillars of its commitment to a more respectful, socially responsible tourism aligned with the preservation of ecosystems.
