A new edition of the event celebrating the opening of the Fuegian winter season will take place from July 4th to 13th. The main event will take place on July 9th at Cerro Castor, with cultural, culinary, and recreational offerings for the entire community.
The Fuegian Tourism Institute (INFUETUR) is moving forward with the organization of a new edition of the National Winter Festival, which will take place from July 4 to 13 in the province of Tierra del Fuego, with a varied agenda of activities in the three locations. The main event will take place on July 9 at the Cerro Castor ski resort, with a day combining tradition, culture, and nature, as part of the official opening of the winter season.
The proposal involves collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors, with the goal of continuing to promote the Fuegian winter season and strengthening its visibility nationwide. The celebration will offer special promotions, free events, and programming that will extend throughout the week.
INFUETUR's Director of Tourism Promotion, Martín Bianchi, emphasized that "the National Winter Festival invites the community and tourists to enjoy activities, tastings, and the traditional torch relay, with promotions and events open to the public, highlighting the destination's ice and snow season." He also noted that, since 2023, the event has been declared a National Holiday, which officially places it on the country's calendar of celebrations and encourages the arrival of visitors who plan their vacations around the festive activities.
As part of this edition, from July 4th to 13th, a week of discounts on accommodations, shops, activities, and cuisine will take place, with the participation of various chambers and tourism providers. The formal opening will take place on July 4th in Río Grande, with the "Night of the Breweries," organized by the local Undersecretariat of Tourism. On July 5th, Cerro Martial will offer outdoor activities with free slope passes, ski and snowboard lessons, and tastings. That same weekend, the Tierra Mayor winter resort will hold the traditional "Night March" cross-country skiing event and a masterclass on Sunday the 6th.
The main event on July 9th at Cerro Castor will begin at noon and will include live music, artistic performances, ice skating exhibitions, games, and regional product tastings. The day will culminate with the iconic torch relay and a musical closing. To facilitate access, promotional transfers will be available through travel agencies associated with the Fuegian Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, in order to promote carpooling and reduce traffic.
The history of this celebration dates back to July 1999, with the opening of Castor Hill. Since then, INFUETUR has organized this event continuously, with the support of the private sector and the active participation of the community. In its last edition, the National Winter Festival attracted more than 5,000 people, establishing itself as one of the main celebrations of the season in the south of the country.
