What was your experience participating in FIEXPO this year?
Happy. FIEXPO is one of my favorite venues for promotion, not only for business, but also for the Latin American spirit that prevails. This strategy has been very productive; we are already reaping the rewards. Ecuador was recognized for the best destination management in the country, and Quito also celebrated 10 years as a member of ICCA. All of this reflects the country's commitment to meeting tourism.
What structural advances does Quito present today for the MICE segment?
The city is constantly changing. It has undergone a complete transformation in the last decade: a new airport, the country's first metro, a modern convention center, new hotels, and projects under development, especially in the area near the airport. An airport hotel is also under construction. Our current infrastructure is well suited to the needs of the events we host.
The city's heritage value is also an important differential. How are you enhancing it?
We continue to invest heavily to preserve the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Quito has the largest historic center in Latin America. Significant improvements have been made, such as the new lighting of the Gothic Basilica, which is now spectacular at night. In addition, there is a boom in new businesses such as cafes and restaurants in heritage sites, breathing new life into the historic center.
