Jersey City, June 17, 2025 – The Dominican Republic strengthens its position as a strategic aviation hub in the Caribbean with the inauguration of the direct route between Santo Domingo (SDQ) and Newark (EWR), operated by Arajet. This new connection is part of the company's expansion plan, which seeks to strengthen its international network through an efficient model and affordable fares.
To commemorate the launch of operations, Arajet hosted a cocktail party at Battello Restaurant in Jersey City, attended by key figures from the aviation and tourism industries. Among those present were Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO and founder of Arajet; David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic; Landon Loomis, Boeing's Vice President for Latin America; and Igor Rodríguez, Director of the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC).
During his remarks, Pacheco Méndez emphasized the strategic importance of this new connection with one of the main urban centers in the United States. He also highlighted the symbolic value of the route, offering the Dominican diaspora a direct, safe, and affordable way to travel to their home country. The executive recalled the beginnings of his family inspiration and the evolution of Arajet as an airline designed to serve Dominicans at home and abroad.
Minister Collado highlighted the economic impact of this opening, noting that each new air connection boosts tourist arrivals, investment growth, and job creation. He indicated that initiatives like this strengthen the international projection of the country's brand.
For his part, Landon Loomis highlighted Arajet's commitment to sustainability and innovation, operating one of the most modern fleets in the region with Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Igor Rodríguez reaffirmed the cooperation between the public and private sectors as a fundamental pillar for positioning the country as a regional aviation hub.
The evening included musical performances, typical Caribbean cuisine, and the participation of representatives of the diplomatic corps, business leaders, and prominent members of the Dominican community in the tri-state area.
The Santo Domingo–Newark route joins Arajet's portfolio of more than 25 destinations in the Americas and the Caribbean, consolidating its goal of democratizing the skies with a Dominican base.
