is proud to announce its selection as one of only fifteen Catalan projects chosen to participate in the prestigious European BEFuture Acceleration Programme. Promoted by the Catalunya Convention Bureau of the Catalan Tourist Board, the programme supports innovative initiatives with the potential to transform tourism and events through circular economy solutions.
CoCoA H2H’s winning project, Sobra, empowers hotels and venues to transform their own food waste into certified, nutrient-rich compost right on site, using a certified 5-month process. By closing the loop locally, venues not only cut emissions and reduce waste, but also turn sustainability into something visible, tangible and part of the guest experience.
“By 2026, hospitality businesses across the EU will need to separate food waste, cut landfill and start composting, or face penalties,” said CoCoA H2H founder, David Benitez. “But there’s a real opportunity here. With Sobra, we’re giving hotels and venues a simple, practical way to get ahead of the rules, hit their climate goals and show real leadership – starting with something as everyday as what’s left on the plate.”
The project’s first pilot is underway at La Torre de Codorníu, a restaurant housed within the historic modernist tower of the iconic Codorníu winery in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Catalunya. Led by Chef Víctor Lema, the restaurant is celebrated for its focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape. By adopting Sobra, La Torre is taking a leading role in the shift to circular practices and pioneering on-site food regeneration in the hospitality sector.
“In a kitchen like ours, respect for the ingredient goes all the way through, from how it’s grown to how it’s returned to the earth,” said Chef Víctor Lema. “Sobra gives us a practical way to deal with food waste on site; we’re regenerating it with care and intention. Guests value that transparency. They see that nothing is wasted, and that we’re taking real steps to care for the land we rely on. It’s a deeper, more connected kind of hospitality.”
Later this year, the pilot will be showcased as part of IBX: Catalunya (28–31 October 2025), the latest edition of IBX: Ibero-America Exchange, a CoCoA H2H event series connecting global suppliers with high-value buyers from across Ibero-America. Attendees will visit La Torre de Codorníu to see the Sobra system in action and explore tangible ways the industry can drive more sustainable efficiencies. Sobra will serve as a practical, real-world example of circular economy principles embedded into everyday operations.
