The event brought together national and regional authorities, representatives of the tourism sector, media outlets, and digital influencers. The main objective: to position Piura and Tumbes as must-see destinations for nature and adventure tourism, under a sustainable and responsible approach.

The event highlighted that between July and October, thousands of humpback whales arrive in the warm waters of northern Peru after traveling more than 8,000 kilometers from Antarctica, turning the beaches of Tumbes and Piura into unique locations for whale watching. This offers, more than just a tourist attraction, an opportunity to connect with marine biodiversity and strengthen the commitment to responsible tourism.

Thus, this campaign is projected to reach more than 128 million advertising impressions through digital media, radio, and public spaces. PROMPERÚ will also promote immersive activations in cities such as Lima and Cajamarca, and will encourage the use of the platform www.ytuqueplanes.com to facilitate travel planning to destinations where this activity takes place.

The launch included an immersive experience with music, folk dances, a flash mob, a gastronomic showcase from the Piura and Tumbes regions, and a screening of the campaign's official video, starring "Sami," a humpback whale turned ambassador for marine conservation.

Regional authorities from Piura and Tumbes, district mayors, and tourism associations also participated in the event, strengthening the collaborative work between the public and private sectors to promote a diverse and sustainable tourism offering.

The 2025 Whale Watching Season promotional campaign is part of PROMPERÚ's efforts to decentralize tourism, boost the local economy, and foster awareness and respect for Peru's natural heritage.

With this initiative, Mincetur, through PROMPERÚ, reaffirms its commitment to diversifying the country's tourism offering, highlighting authentic experiences that generate local development and contribute to the conservation of Peru's natural heritage.
