This recognition comes with a publication in Wanderlust, the leading travel magazine in the United Kingdom, which has a print circulation of nearly 77,000 copies per issue and more than 345,000 readers combined between digital and print formats, in more than 70 countries around the world, including three of Ecuador's main priority markets: the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada.
In addition to being designated as Destination of the Year, there are initiatives of great promotional value, including the publication of a 160-page bookzine about Ecuador, aimed at the European market, and the creation of an exclusive microsite within the Wanderlust digital portal.
Tourism Minister Mateo Estrella explained that "Wanderlust has been able to connect with a type of traveler who values authenticity, connection with nature, and transformative experiences. And Ecuador, with its biodiversity, cultural richness, unique heritage, and the warmth of its people, is the ideal destination for those seeking much more than a place to visit: they seek a place to experience, to discover, and to learn." He also stated that "this content will be strategic tools that will allow us to elevate the country's image even further, with narratives, photography, and experiences that reflect the essence of Ecuador."
George Kipouros, editor-in-chief of Wanderlust, noted that this is the first time Ecuador has been designated Destination of the Year since the publication's inception in 1994, and that it was precisely the country whose diversity inspired the creation of the travel magazine as a means of promoting destinations around the world. "Ecuador is open; Ecuador welcomes you. Ecuador is a safe country to visit. This is the best time to travel to Ecuador," he asserted.
Santiago Granda, Undersecretary of Promotion, expressed his gratitude for the media sharing positive news like this. "It's time to work together toward positioning the country nationally and internationally with many riches to offer," he said.
