Marriott International, Inc. announced the signing of a timeshare agreement with Corporación Polaris and Cardedeu to open four City Express by Marriott hotels, marking the brand's debut in El Salvador. These signed projects are expected to further strengthen Marriott's presence in the country with the addition of 440 rooms, consolidating the company's position in the limited-service segment throughout the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) region.
“We are very excited to bring the City Express by Marriott brand to El Salvador, a vibrant and culturally rich market,” said Alonso Burgos, Vice President of Development for Marriott International in CALA. “This agreement reinforces our commitment to increasing access to reliable, high-quality hospitality options throughout the region and offering our guests meaningful experiences at all price points.”
“The highly anticipated debut of these City Express by Marriott properties in the coming years not only reaffirms Polaris' commitment to excellence and regional growth, but also contributes to meeting the growing demand for hotel accommodations in El Salvador,” said Alberto Guerrero, President of Corporación Polaris.
El Salvador has experienced significant growth in its tourism and business sectors in recent years, doubling its hotel capacity through new agreements, including the recently announced JW Marriott Hotel San Salvador. These four new City Express by Marriott properties will be strategically located to serve both business and leisure travelers, offering convenient access to key destinations such as the historic center, the international airport, residential areas, and major business centers.
Located in the heart of San Salvador's historic center, City Centro by Marriott San Salvador will feature 31 rooms for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the city's rich history and culture. Just 30 minutes from Ilopango International Airport, the hotel enjoys a prime location near key tourist attractions, including unique views of the recently opened National Library (BINAES), the majestic Metropolitan Cathedral, and the iconic Civic and Liberty Squares. The property is expected to be converted to the brand before the end of the year, offering an experience that combines modern comfort with the historic charm of the capital.
City Express by Marriott Aeropuerto is expected to open in late 2026, connecting the San Salvador metropolitan area with the International Airport. Also scheduled for 2026, City Express by Marriott Santa Elena will be located along the Pan-American Highway, in a lively residential and commercial area, close to the World Trade Center, La Gran Vía shopping center, hospitals, and schools. By late 2027, City Express Plus by Marriott San Benito will open its doors in the heart of the San Benito district, a vibrant area known for its combination of businesses, gastronomy, nightlife, and cultural venues such as the El Salvador Museum of Art (MARTE).
City Express by Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy's global portfolio of more than 30 extraordinary brands, continues to expand its regional presence. This announcement builds on the brand's previously announced growth plans, which include its continued and planned expansion in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Peru, as well as the United States and Canada—with the agreements in Nicaragua marking the company's official debut in that country. Demonstrating Marriott's strength in delivering and scaling regionally relevant brands, the brand's expanding portfolio currently includes 153 hotels (more than 17,700 rooms) and 62 projects under development.
