The city of Lima has been chosen as the host of two of the most important aviation industry events in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2025. These are the ALTA Aviation Law Americas, to be held from September 17-19, and the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum, from October 19-21.

Both events—organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA)—will feature senior airline executives, government authorities, manufacturers, airport operators, legal experts, and other key players in the aviation industry.

The ALTA Aviation Law Americas 2025 agenda will address key topics shaping the direction of the aviation legal and regulatory environment in the region. Highlights include the impact of sanctions and economic shocks on the industry, legal challenges linked to tensions in supply chains and infrastructure, liability in cargo transportation, the regulatory evolution of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), the risks of war, and the growing threat of cybersecurity. Additionally, the legal future of artificial intelligence applied to aviation will be discussed, an issue that is redefining operational and regulatory standards.

The central theme of the ALTA AGM will be: "Aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean at a Crossroads: Facing Challenges and Seizing Opportunities." The panels, debates, and presentations will include strategic and executive insights on the geopolitical and economic context, new costs and challenges associated with fees and tariffs, contractions in growth and operations due to infrastructure, aviation safety, tourism, crisis management, sustainability, and cargo.

In this context, the recent inauguration of the new passenger terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima represents a strategic advance for the region's connectivity. With a structure three times larger than the previous one and an initial capacity for 30 million passengers per year—with the possibility of expanding to 40 million by 2030—the new facility positions Lima as one of Latin America's main hubs.

The modernized infrastructure, combined with the operation of two runways, a new control tower, and a cargo center, expands logistics capacity and improves the passenger experience. The new terminal is expected to boost tourism—which grew 29% in 2024—generate opportunities for new operators, and contribute to the country's economic development, directly reflecting the topics that will be discussed at the ALTA forums.

“The growth of Peru's air transport sector is remarkable, and the modernization of its main airport is a clear demonstration of the country's commitment to the development of air transport, an essential service for the Andean nation. We are excited to host two high-level meetings in Lima, a vibrant, strategic city undergoing rapid transformation. It will be a great opportunity to strengthen dialogue between industry leaders and promote regional integration,” said Peter Cerdá, CEO of ALTA.
