Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora and Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda established the Local Organizing Committee for the 2026 Acapulco Tianguis Turístico.
The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) emphasized that the 50th edition of the Tianguis Turístico, which will take place from April 27 to 30, 2026, in the port of Acapulco, will be historic in a resilient, united, and renewed destination.
"You'll find a different Acapulco, with new hotel infrastructure, new experiences, a new promotional format, and a fully planned center. This new format will diversify the tourist experience in Guerrero. We'll carry out various activations, offering a small taste of Mexico in all of Guerrero's tourist destinations," he emphasized.
He stated that, as in the previous edition held in Baja California, this Tourist Tianguis will have an international format, in which the country's 32 states will carry out activities throughout Guerrero to showcase Mexico's vast cultural, artisanal, culinary, and natural wealth to attendees.
He reported that with the establishment of this committee, work officially begins on organizing the Tianguis Turístico, through 18 subcommittees—three more than last year—including an evaluation subcommittee, which will ensure the continuous improvement of the most important tourism fair in the Americas.
“Returning to Acapulco isn't just about returning to the origins of the Tianguis Turístico; it's about reaffirming Mexico's resilient and vibrant tourism vocation. It will be an opportunity to show the world how Guerrero, and Acapulco in particular, are rising up with strength, dignity, and a clear vision of Shared Prosperity,” he said.
He asserted that this meeting joins the international events that will make 2026 a historic year for tourism in Mexico, such as the country's participation as a partner in the 2026 International Tourism Fair (Fitur), the 2026 World Cup, and the ITB Americas in Guadalajara.
He recalled that, following the decree published in January 2025, the Inter-Secretarial Commission for the Care, Reconstruction, and Economic Recovery of Acapulco and Coyuca de Benítez was created, which operates under five axes and with federal public funding of more than 18 billion pesos.
He emphasized that, thanks to the institutional support of all three levels of government, Acapulco has recovered and continues to transform, consolidating its position as a tourist destination in Mexico and around the world.
As proof of this, he pointed out that, from January to May 2025, Acapulco received 2.45 million tourists, representing a 46.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year; additionally, hotel occupancy increased from 34.4 percent in 2024 to 48.9 percent in 2025, an increase of almost 19 percentage points.
He added that the municipal tourism Gross Domestic Product represents 17.6 percent of Acapulco's economy and 62.7 percent of state tourism, which, he asserted, is a clear demonstration of the importance of tourism to the port and state's economy.
“From here, from Guerrero, we tell the world: Mexico is ready to welcome you, with the warmth of its people, with an open soul, and with the heart of Acapulco beating stronger than ever,” he concluded.
For her part, Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda affirmed that with the start of preparations to celebrate the "golden edition" of the Tianguis Turístico, Acapulco will reposition itself in Mexico and around the world as a tourism destination.
He thanked the President of Mexico for her commitment to promoting the recovery of Acapulco and emphasized: "This great momentum that has emerged after Hurricane Otis and Hurricane John has not been the result of chance or good luck. This is the result of work, of the continuous and daily work that we have and that all of us here and all the people of Guerrero have done, a people who have never given up or retreated in the face of adversity."
The event was attended by public officials from Mexico's Ministry of Tourism, as well as the Secretary of Tourism of Guerrero, Simón Quiñones Orozco, and the mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, among others.
