Monterrey, Nuevo León, July 3, 2025 – Mexican airline Viva announced the launch of its new international route connecting Monterrey, Nuevo León, with San José, Costa Rica, offering passengers a direct, affordable, and convenient way to travel between the two destinations.

The new route will begin operations on October 30, with two weekly flights:

Monterrey – San José: Mondays and Fridays, departure at 9:50 p.m., arrival at 1:20 a.m. (the following day).
San José – Monterrey: Tuesdays and Saturdays, departure at 2:20 a.m. and arrival at 6:00 a.m.

This service will initially be available until January 12th and will return on March 28th for the start of the Easter holiday season, after which the service will continue permanently.

"This new direct connection between Monterrey and San José strengthens Costa Rica's position as a strategic destination for international travelers. We are excited to welcome more visitors from northern Mexico and bring Costa Ricans closer to a vibrant region full of opportunities," said William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism.

He added that "the opening of this route responds to growing demand and interest in connecting two regions with enormous tourism wealth. Costa Rica has a unique natural offering, and Monterrey is a city in constant growth."

For its part, Viva continues to expand its route network from Monterrey, its main base, to connect more key destinations in Latin America.

“This is great news for our passengers, as they will now have the option, for the first time, to fly with us comfortably and directly to San José. We invite them to enjoy this new international route that will connect the beautiful capital of Costa Rica with Monterrey, the home of Viva and one of our most important connectivity hubs, from where we offer our visitors more than 45 destinations, connecting both within the country and to the United States,” commented Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of the Viva Aerobus Group.

With this new option, future travelers will be able to enjoy direct access to Costa Rican ecotourism, beaches, and culture, as well as the gastronomic, business, and entertainment experiences offered by both Monterrey and Costa Rica.

According to the most recent data from the ICT (International Trade Commission), during the first five months of 2025 (January to May), 36,211 Mexican tourists arrived by air to our country, and Mexico has consolidated its position as one of the main source markets for travelers to Costa Rica.
