International tourism in Brazil is experiencing a historic moment. Between January and June 2025, the country welcomed 5,332,111 foreign tourists, representing a 48.2% increase over the same period last year and the best-ever result for the first half of the year. This figure represents 77.3% of the target set in the 2024-2027 National Tourism Plan for this year, which projects the arrival of 6.9 million international visitors. If this pace continues, Brazil could surpass the target of 8.1 million tourists initially planned for 2027 by 2025.
In June alone, 444,882 foreigners arrived in the country, an increase of 33.8% (112,408 arrivals) compared to June 2024.
"Tourism in Brazil has gone from being a potential to a reality. We are reaching the levels of foreign tourist arrivals our country deserves, with a growth rate that is currently the highest in the world. This has generated new investments, thousands of jobs, and income throughout the country. Tourism has become a clean industry that develops our country sustainably, providing opportunities in all regions, in large, medium-sized, and small cities. This is the result of the intense work of Embratur and the Ministry of Tourism to show the world that we are many "Brazils," in addition to the sun and the beach that everyone already knows," celebrated Embratur President Marcelo Freixo.
Regarding the new record, Tourism Minister Celso Sabino stated: "We are experiencing the best moment for Brazilian tourism. These records are the result of investments in infrastructure, the expansion of the airline network, the training of professionals, and strategic international promotion initiatives. Brazil boasts unique attractions: lush nature, a diverse culture, and a rich gastronomy. And, with the country's growing presence on the international stage, more foreigners will continue to choose Brazil as a destination," the minister stated.
Federal Police data show that, among the main source countries, Argentina leads the ranking with 2,323,891 visitors in the first half of 2025, followed by Chile (442,993) and the United States (410,189). Uruguay, with 308,956 tourists, and Paraguay (306,523) round out the top five.
Next comes France with 132,939 visitors, followed by Portugal (128,114), Germany (103,483) and the United Kingdom with 97,413.
The number of British tourists is 20% higher than in the same period in 2024, when 81,200 visitors from the United Kingdom visited Brazil in the first half of the year.
