39.4 million international visitors will enter Mexico from January to May 2025, 14.2% more than in 2024

Mexican Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora announced that 39.4 million international visitors entered Mexico from January to May 2025, representing a 14.2 percent increase compared to 2024.

"With these results, Mexico continues to consolidate its position as one of the most attractive and dynamic destinations in the world, as well as a key element in bringing well-being to Mexicans who participate in this noble activity. Tourism in Mexico is a window that allows the world to experience not only our gastronomy, culture, and natural attractions, but also our warmth, diversity, creativity, and love for our roots," he stated.

He highlighted that, according to the results of the International Travelers Survey published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the income from foreign currency from international visitors during the first five months of the year was 15.9295 billion dollars, which represents an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period in 2024 and 43.8 compared to 2019.

He also highlighted that, in May alone, 7,938,444 visitors entered the country, 18 percent more than in the same month in 2024. Of these, 3,751,180 were international overnight tourists and 4,187,264 were day trippers. Similarly, foreign currency income from international visitors amounted to $2,618.8 million, representing a 6.3 percent annual increase.

The head of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur) reported that, from January to May, 19.4 million international tourists entered the country, 6.8 and 6.6 percent more than the same period in 2024 and 2019, respectively.

He added that foreign currency income from international tourists was $14.624 billion, 5.2 percent higher than last year and 44.4 percent higher than in 2019.

He explained that, during this same period, 10.2 million inbound tourists arrived in Mexico by air, with an average spending of $1,300.5 million, representing an increase of 6.8 percent compared to 2024 and 24.7 percent compared to 2019.

Rodríguez Zamora also noted that during the first five months of the year, five million cruise passengers arrived at Mexico's various ports, representing an increase of 10 and 19.5 percent compared to 2024 and 2019, respectively.

In this regard, he highlighted that the foreign currency income generated by these cruise ship excursions amounted to $427.7 million, 12.0 percent higher than that recorded in 2024 and 48.4 percent higher than in 2019.
