Embratur and the National Association of Research and Graduate Studies in Tourism (ANPTUR) announced this Tuesday (15) the launch of the Research Promotion Call. The initiative, which is part of the Em Tese program, seeks to encourage the generation of knowledge and innovation, in addition to contributing to the development of Brazilian tourism.
The call, the result of a collaboration agreement between both institutions, seeks to support graduate research (strictly speaking) in the field of tourism, with a total investment of R$400,000.00. Up to four research proposals will be selected, each with funding of up to R$100,000.00 for the development of their projects, thus promoting the integration of institutions from different states.
According to Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, innovation and knowledge are pillars for a stronger and more competitive tourism industry. "With this call, we seek to bring academia closer to the market, transforming data and research into effective strategies to promote Brazil abroad," Freixo states. He adds that "investing in market intelligence ensures that our actions are increasingly assertive and that we can offer international tourists a unique, high-quality experience."
ANPTUR President Osiris Ricardo Bezerra Marques highlighted the importance of this partnership. "This partnership between ANPTUR and Embratur represents a milestone for tourism research in Brazil. It represents the union of academia, graduate programs, the public sector, and the tourism industry to reflect broadly and strategically on the development of Brazilian tourism. More than ever, it is essential to implement actions that build the future of tourism based on scientific knowledge and effective, evidence-based public policies committed to the social and economic transformation of the country," he stated.
About the project
Research proposals must be aligned with the theme of International Tourism in Brazil, with special attention to areas such as innovation, the creative economy, sustainability, ESG, Afrotourism, and evidence-based public policies. The objective is to expand the production of qualified knowledge, identify obstacles, and propose scientific solutions to the challenges facing the sector in the country.
The initiative will contribute to scientific and technological development, as well as to the development of academic careers in tourism and the promotion of scientific dissemination to a broader audience. Cooperation between academia, the private sector, and the government is considered essential for the professionalization of Brazilian tourism.
Researchers interested in participating in the selection process must submit their proposals by August 22, 2025. The full call and application form are available at this link. The results will be announced during the 22nd ANPTUR Seminar, to be held in September 2025.
