Uruguay strengthens its presence in Chile with a new tourism promotion initiative

The initiative, aimed at travel agents, tour operators, and specialized press, aims to position Uruguay as an attractive and diverse destination for Chilean travelers.

In the first three months of 2025, more than 27,000 Chileans chose Uruguay for their vacation. On average, each visitor stayed 6.6 days and spent nearly USD 722, representing a daily average of more than USD 108, higher than the average for other tourists in the region.

The profile of Chilean tourists visiting Uruguay combines medium-to-long stays with high spending, making it a strategic market.

They tend to combine city breaks with nature, fine dining with history, and relaxation with culture. Montevideo, Colonia, and Punta del Este continue to lead the list, but wine tourism, hot springs, rural tourism, and wellness destinations are also gaining ground.

During the event in Chile, representatives from MINTUR and CAMTUR will highlight the diversity of experiences Uruguay offers and will place special emphasis on year-round tourism opportunities in Uruguay.

The benefits policy for non-residents will also be introduced, including VAT exemption on hotels and accommodations upon presentation of their ID issued abroad. Additionally, VAT refunds will apply to food services, catering services for parties and events, services for parties and events in general, and rental of self-drive vehicles.

Business roundtable

Additionally, a business roundtable will be held mid-morning with a delegation of Uruguayan operators traveling for the occasion. Representatives from Cynsa (Lucía Amestoy), Buquebus (Rosario García), Personal Operadora (Juliana Medero), Abtour (Mónica Riverol), Estancia Vik (Solange Caballero and Yulimar González), Enjoy Punta del Este (Laura Peña), Solanas Vacation Club (Edwin Shaw), the Jean Clevers Hotel (Mercedes González), and a representative from Sky Airlines will be present.

This event will aim to strengthen direct trade ties between companies from both countries and generate new business opportunities to position Uruguay in the Chilean market.

The event will culminate with a high-voltage cultural highlight: a live performance by renowned Uruguayan percussionist Tatita Márquez, an international icon of candombe and a pioneer in its fusion with other genres such as jazz, hip hop, and electronic music.

On this occasion, a Chilean musician will participate in an original performance that celebrates the intersection of both cultures through rhythm. The artist's participation in the events planned in Chile and Brazil is supported by Uruguay XXI.
