The city of Cusco has been chosen, for the third consecutive year, as the best city in Central and South America in the World's Best Awards 2025, announced the Peruvian Export and Tourism Promotion Commission (PROMPERÚ). This distinction is based on the results of the annual survey by the renowned magazine Travel + Leisure, in which thousands of readers rate their travel experiences worldwide.
With an outstanding score, Cusco leads the list for its unparalleled combination of history, vibrant culture, gastronomy, adventure, and nature.
The post reads, "Cusco is a fascinating city. Its history dates back centuries, and its atmosphere is incredible. It has many layers: restaurants and shops in the main square, cultural adventures, and hikes into the mountains. The nightlife and food make it totally worth a visit—there is so much to do and discover."
The text also points out that, while Cusco is often a starting point for Machu Picchu, its richness as a destination is so vast that it deserves to be explored in its own right. Among its main attractions are the Plaza de Armas and Sacsayhuamán.
Lima also stood out on the list, ranking fourth, climbing four places compared to the previous year, thanks to its vibrant cultural, architectural, and culinary scene. Last month, Maido, located in Lima's Miraflores district, was voted the best restaurant in the world.
Cusco, a priority destination for tourism promotion in Peru.
In a joint effort with the Ministry of Tourism (MINCETUR), PROMPERÚ has been promoting Cusco nationally and internationally as one of the country's key destinations. This strategic effort seeks to position the region as a hub for cultural, culinary, adventure, and nature experiences.
According to the 2024 Profile of Foreign Tourists Visiting Cusco, prepared by Turismo In, international visitors stay an average of 7 days in the region and spend an average of USD 1,839.
