Uruguay: Increase in tourists and spending in the second quarter of the year

According to data presented by the Ministry of Tourism's Research and Statistics Department, inbound tourism had a total of 685,439 visitors in the second quarter of the year, with an expenditure of 309 million dollars, highlighting an increase in tourists and expenditure compared to the same period in 2024

As usual, Argentines and Brazilians were the most representative foreign tourists in the country. Argentine visitors have been the largest number of visitors to our tourist destinations, reaching 366,797 visitors with a total spending of $145 million.

Tourists of Brazilian origin are in second place, registering a total of 95,658 people arriving in Uruguay, spending $50 million. Northern visitors increased their arrivals and spending compared to the previous year.

Another highlight is the arrival of Paraguayan tourists, where visitors have increased their preference for our country by 75% compared to the same period in 2024, with an arrival of 14,672 tourists.

Chilean tourists continued to be present, with 12,863 arrivals, while North Americans reached a total of 18,795 arrivals, and other Latin American nationalities reached 39,548. The same is true for European tourists, who maintain their preference for Uruguay, with 31,939 arrivals.

Regarding outbound tourism, a decline was noted: 563,095 residents traveled abroad, spending a total of $290 million. Sixty-two percent of Uruguayans chose Argentina as their destination, while 27% chose Brazil.

These statistics cover the period of April, May, and June 2025, with Holy Week taking place in April.
