For Andres Diaz Silva, executive director of PROCOLOMBIA Brazil, being present is essential to showcase Colombia's evolution as a diverse destination — one that goes far beyond leisure.

"The first time was a test to understand the potential. Today, the event is a regular on our annual calendar. It's the only one in Brazil focused on niche tourism, and that makes all the difference," Andres emphasizes, highlighting the strength of the market on the continent.

Learning Spanish: Neutral Accent and Literary Tradition

If there's one thing that sets Colombia apart from other Latin American destinations, it's its reputation as a benchmark for Spanish language teaching. "When it comes to proper Spanish, Colombia's is the most neutral, recognized by the Royal Spanish Academy," explains Andres Diaz. This characteristic has made the country an increasingly sought-after hub for foreigners seeking to master the language.

According to the executive, cities like Cali, Medellín, and Santa Marta offer renowned institutes and specialized infrastructure to welcome students. "Furthermore, we develop an exchange policy in partnership with foreign universities. It's a strong strategy within our educational diplomacy," he adds.

Exchange that becomes tourism

What begins as an academic experience soon expands into itineraries that explore the best of Colombia's nature. "Young people come to study, but they also take the opportunity to travel extensively. We have 30% of our territory covered by natural parks. Trails, reserves, and adventure tourism attract a young audience, mainly from Europe," comments Andres Diaz.

The impact goes beyond study tourism — it creates connections that strengthen the country's image as a destination prepared to welcome travelers seeking culture, leisure, and authentic experiences.

Cartagena, Medellín and Bogotá: mandatory stops

For those looking to combine learning, culture, and hospitality, three cities stand out as ideal destinations: Cartagena, Medellín, and Bogotá. "These three are the heart of Colombia's tourism. They offer infrastructure, safety, and a vibrant cultural program. They are a reference point for any type of audience," says the diplomat.

Excellent service for everyone

Although the country invests in specific training policies for serving the LGBT+ community, Andres emphasizes that the difference lies in the quality of the service as a whole. "It's not about creating a unique itinerary. It's about ensuring that every tourist—whether LGBT+, straight, or 60+—enjoys respect, hospitality, and a high level of experience. That's what makes Colombia stand out," he states.

Colombia: Learn, Explore and Live

From impeccable Spanish to itineraries through nature reserves, Colombia shows at the 4th LGBT+ Tourism Expo that the country is a vibrant destination, ready to welcome students, travelers, and explorers from all over the world.

"This event is about that: opening doors, breaking down barriers, and showcasing the best of what we have. We want more Brazilians to come and discover firsthand what Colombia has to offer," concludes Andres Diaz.

The 4th LGBT+ Tourism Expo was held on July 24th, at the Hotel Unique, in São Paulo.
