Those interested, pay attention. Embratur, in collaboration with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), is organizing the online workshop "Pathways of International Afrotourism" this Tuesday, August 29th and August 5th. Participation is open to DMCs (destination management companies, hotels, state and municipal tourism departments, Afrotourism stakeholders, and other industry players interested in investing in the Brazilian segment with an eye to the international tourism market.
The initiative seeks to discuss best practices and strategies for expanding Afrotourism, with an emphasis on consolidating and promoting Brazilian tourism abroad. Afrotourism is a tourism segment that encompasses experiences that celebrate the culture, history, and experiences of the Black population and prioritizes Afro-Brazilian entrepreneurship.
The program will be divided into two modules. The first, titled "International Afrotourism Routes: Best Practices, Opportunities, and Expansion of Afrotourism in the International Market," will take place on July 29, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The presentation will address storytelling techniques for promoting Afrotourism and planning cultural experiences.
The second module, "Pathways of International Afrotourism: Digital Marketing and International Afrotourism Marketing," will be held on August 5th at the same time. It will present digital marketing strategies and examples of best practices in the promotion and international marketing of Afrotourism.
According to Embratur President Marcelo Freixo, with these workshops, the Agency and CAF are working to make Brazil a world leader in Afrotourism. "There is no Brazilian history without the history of Africa. Placing Afrotourism at the center of our international promotion agenda is strategic for strengthening Afroentrepreneurs, generating employment, and honoring the memory of Brazil's Black population. This is how tourism helps us build a more just, inclusive country committed to the fight against racism," he stated.
For Tania Neres, the Agency's coordinator of Afrotourism, Diversity, and Indigenous Peoples, this is an ongoing effort. "The goal is that, starting with these initial workshops, others will be held, both online and in person, so that Brazil becomes a benchmark for Black-led Afrotourism in the international market. This continues Embratur's collaboration with the Black Travel Summit, which is being held this year in November in Rio de Janeiro," she emphasized.
Association
The workshops are the result of a collaboration agreement between Embratur and CAF, signed in January 2024. The goal of this joint effort is to boost Brazilian Afrotourism by promoting its characteristics in the global market. The collaboration with CAF seeks to elevate Afrotourism to a level of international relevance, aligning Brazil's tourism promotion with an agenda of sustainable development and inclusion.
This initiative is part of Plano Brasis, Embratur's new international marketing plan, which positions Brazil as a destination committed to sustainability, democracy, and inclusion, with Afrotourism as one of its pillars.
