The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported that total passenger traffic—measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs)—grew 5.7% year-over-year in June 2025. Internationally, growth was even more robust, reaching 8.3% compared to June 2024, indicating that travel demand remains strong in most global markets.

International flights were driven primarily by regions such as Asia-Pacific, which grew 16.7%, leading the rebound thanks to the dynamism of source markets and expanding connectivity. The Middle East and Europe also saw significant increases, with increases of 9.9% and 6.4% respectively.

Meanwhile, the domestic market registered more moderate growth of 3.4%, marked by a slowdown in economies such as the US and China. However, these figures remain at high levels compared to pre-pandemic levels, demonstrating the sector's resilience in the face of macroeconomic challenges.

Willie Walsh, IATA's Director General, said: “The appetite for travel remains strong. The slowdown in demand in some markets is a reminder that air transport growth is also linked to economic performance. Still, we are seeing an encouraging outlook with good prospects for the remainder of the year.”

IATA also highlighted the importance of continuing to advance operational improvements, infrastructure, and sustainability to sustain this growth. In this regard, the association emphasized its commitment to supporting the industry in the transition toward more efficient operations with a lower environmental impact.

The June report reaffirms that, despite some signs of a slowing global economy, commercial aviation remains on a stable path, with opportunities for expansion particularly in emerging markets and international routes.
