Tourism Minister Pablo Menoni emphasized the importance of Uruguay's participation in this world championship. "This type of participation raises awareness of Uruguay and its destinations. It not only showcases the different flavors but also the history they convey through their cuisine. We will continue to support these events to strengthen our gastronomic offerings and help consolidate these types of competitions."
For his part, Maldonado Tourism Director Edgar Silveira stated, “The National Paella Championship will continue. We must continue improving, supporting, and surpassing the level, undoubtedly securing the next World Championship award. These types of events are important, and for all of Uruguay, they confirm that gastronomy is also a vehicle for expressing who we are, for generating new opportunities, and for opening doors to the world.”
2024 National Paella Champion Ian Escobar highlighted his experience of the championship process: “I found a family in Piriápolis, a family that works toward a common goal: tourism, highlighting local products and the events that take place there.”
Miguel Ángel Castro, Director of World Paella Day, participated from Valencia, where he remarked, "Uruguay and Piriápolis have achieved a milestone in this process; they have been the first to qualify for this most prestigious world championship for this dish. Participants will be able to discover Valencia and various culinary highlights."
After the conference, a paella tasting was held live for all those who attended.
