Mexico City, August 2025 – Marriott International, Inc. unveiled its expansion strategy in Brazil with the introduction of its limited-service brand, City Express by Marriott . The plan includes expanding into primary destinations such as São Paulo, as well as secondary and tertiary markets with strong tourism growth.
City Express by Marriott is part of Marriott Bonvoy's portfolio of more than 30 brands and has been a leader in its segment for more than two decades, consolidating its recognition among Latin American travelers. Following its success in other countries, the company plans to replicate this model in Brazil to diversify its lodging offering and, at the same time, open up new opportunities for owners and investors.
Renato Carvalho, senior development manager for Marriott International in Brazil, emphasized that the timing is opportune to introduce a fresh concept to the market: “We anticipate a significant expansion of the brand throughout the country, with several letters of intent already signed, as we present this opportunity to hotel and real estate investors . ”
In 2023, Marriott entered the limited-service segment through the acquisition of the City Express brand portfolio, which added nearly 17,500 rooms in Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Chile. The company currently operates nearly 500 properties in 37 countries across the Caribbean and Latin America, positioning itself as the largest hotel chain in the region.
For developers and owners, City Express by Marriott represents an attractive investment model with low construction costs, reduced membership fees, and an efficient operating system. It also offers access to Marriott's distribution channels, including its Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program and global sales network, optimizing revenue and customer acquisition costs.
Marriott currently has 12 properties in Brazil totaling approximately 3,200 rooms under eight of its international brands, including Courtyard by Marriott, JW Marriott, Renaissance Hotels, Residence Inn, Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, and Westin Hotels & Resorts.
The company continues to strengthen its presence in the country in the luxury, premium and residential segments, with the upcoming openings of W São Paulo and W Residences São Paulo in late 2024, as well as The Westin São Paulo , planned for 2025.
