Montevideo, August 21, 2025 – Regional workshops were held in Montevideo, Minas, Rivera, Salto and in virtual format, with the aim of incorporating territorial realities into the diagnosis and roadmap of the National Strategy for Digital Transformation in Tourism , framed within the project “Innovation and Development of Tourism 4.0 in Uruguay”, presented on August 5 by Minister Pablo Menoni and the IDB representative in Uruguay, Luis Roz.
More than 250 people participated in these sessions, which were in addition to interviews conducted by the consulting firm Inmark – Soul Data with chambers of commerce, tourism associations, and strategic stakeholders in the sector. The initiative is part of a non-reimbursable technical cooperation program that seeks to generate knowledge and design a national strategy to promote digital transformation in tourism, contributing to the competitiveness of Uruguay as a destination.
Technology and the dynamics of its rapid transformations are key variables in tourism development today. In line with the National Tourism Plan 2030 , the Ministry's strategic priorities include the digital transformation of MSMEs and the agency itself, the development of smart tourism destinations, and the promotion of Tourism 4.0, understood as the integration of technology and data into tourism management, promotion, and experience, with the goal of increasing efficiency and strengthening sustainability.
The project reinforces the commitment to innovation, in line with the national policy promoted by the Presidency of the Republic to strengthen the research and innovation system from a strategic perspective of balanced and equitable development.
Since 2006, the Ministry of Tourism and the IDB have developed joint programs to support the sector. Currently, the Emerging Tourism Destination Development Program is being implemented in seven departments, aimed at consolidating tourism as a generator of employment, income, and territorial balance.
