Guatemala assumes the executive direction and honorary presidency of the Mundo Maya Organization
Position the cultural heritage of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and five states of Mexico
On behalf of the Government of the Republic, through the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT), today assumed the executive direction and honorary presidency of the Mundo Maya Organization, within the framework of the Tourism Tianguis, which will promote the "Mundo Maya" program which positions the cultural heritage of Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and five states of the United Mexican States: Campeche, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, Tabasco and Chiapas, destinations full of cultural wealth, gastronomy, archaeological sites, fauna and natural areas.
Referring to a bit of history, three decades ago, he initiated an unprecedented project in our continent, with the first regional meeting where a common project was defined to constitute the first multi-destination in Latin America, which at that time was called the Ruta Maya, and that was the result of an alliance between five nations in order to promote the coordination and stimulation of tourism development taking advantage of the varied offer of archaeological, natural and cultural resources that as heirs of the Mayan culture share Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and five states of southern Mexico.
25 years ago, on August 14, 1992, with the signing of the Constitutive Agreement, the Mundo Maya Organization was formed and the member countries acquired the commitment to work in a coordinated and joint manner for the positioning of our region at an international level.
"That commitment will continue these next two years, so from the Guatemalan Tourism Institute we propose to promote, with the support of all the members of the Mundo Maya Organization, the follow-up to the efforts for the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2015-2025", indicated the General Director of INGUAT, Jorge Mario Chajón.
The official explained that during the next two years, special emphasis will be given to the following strategic actions:
Continue with the procedure of modification to the Constitutive Agreement initiated by Mexico.
Carry out the III Mundo Maya Business Meeting to deal with the issues of connectivity and tourism facilitation and carry out phase II of the Regional Diagnosis of Connectivity and Tourist Facilitation.
Create the Mayan World Marketing Commission and develop the strategy and marketing plan for the Mundo Maya region.
Potentialize the discovery in Petén with LiDar technology to reposition the Mundo Maya region.
Complete the Maya Community Tourism Regional Project.
Support the Permante Technical Secretariat for the technical, administrative and financial strengthening of the Organization
